Organic Series

The Organic Series marks my fascination with the natural, botanical world, as well as an ongoing exploration of the transience and impermanence of our tenuous physical circumstances.  To highlight both the inherent strength and inevitable fragility of form, the organic elements in these pieces are real.  Many of these works are pieces which could only be worn with the understanding of the wearer that they would eventually be worn away.  When I work with these materials, I’m interested both in how to actually connect the elements into a finished piece, and also in how the piece will eventually fall apart and decay.  What will be left is as interesting to me as what it started out as.  I’m interested in the blurring of the line between jewelry and sculpture, functional art and nonfunctional art.  To me, these boundaries are somewhat arbitrary and as transient as the pieces themselves.
